Liquid Light: Glass Art at The Groove

Call For Submissions

As part of Glass Month 2024 we will be hosting a juried exhibit of New Mexico glass artists for the month of July. We are accepting glass (and “glass-forward”) art for both wall and 3-D display. We hope to feature a wide range of glass art, including fused/kiln-formed, mosaic, stained glass, blown glass, lamp work, glass etching/painting and other gorgeous glass manifestations! Key Dates:

May 31th - Deadline to submit completed application (Midnight)
June 10th - Selection notifications emailed (Midnight)
June 28th & 29th- Selected work due at The Groove Artspace 10-4pm
July 1-30 - Exhibition dates
July 5th (5-9pm) – Opening Reception First Friday ArtWalk/ARTScrawl
July 31 (12 - 7pm), August 1st (10am - 12pm) - Pick up work

About the Venue:
The Groove Artspace is a teaching collaborative and gallery primarily  focused on glass and mosaic art, but encompassing many different art forms. We are located in the heart of downtown Albuquerque. Our mission is to create opportunities for artists of all backgrounds to advance their craft and for the public to explore new art-making modalities. 

Eligibility:
Submitting artists must be New Mexico residents. Artist must be the original creator and copyright holder of the work submitted for consideration. No installations or sets of works to make one entry will be accepted (i.e. each piece of a set or series is considered an individual piece.) Submissions should represent the work of a single artist. Works submitted must be available for sale and deliverable to The Groove Artspace on the indicated dates and must remain on display at the gallery for the entirety of the exhibition. No late drop-offs or early pick-ups. Please plan accordingly!

Media:
Glass art of all kinds, including fused glass, glass mosaic, blown or molded glass, etc. Glass must be a primary and essential element of the artwork, but other materials may be used. All flat works must be delivered with mounting hooks and wire, ready to hang. Sculptural work must be stable and secure if larger. Sculptural pieces should include display directions whenever possible.

Promotion:
Works in this exhibit will be featured in our gallery and on the The Groove Artspace website during the exhibition. The show will be featured for a First Friday Art Walk and ARTScrawl and advertised in the our newsletter and online. Press releases will be made and the exhibition and associated events will be promoted on social media. Artists will receive a digital postcard announcing the exhibit to distribute to their individual mailing lists.

Legal:
By submitting images of your work, you agree to allow The Groove Artspace to use those images to promote this exhibit as the committee sees fit. (The Groove Artspace will never reproduce your work. We may utilize images and text you provide for promotional purposes directly related to the show.) Wherever possible, we will use our best efforts to ensure that your work is accurately represented and credited. If accepted into this exhibit, you agree that The Groove Artspace may sell your submitted work and retain 30% commission on the sale. The Groove Artspace reserves the right to reject work for any reason. Artwork will be chosen based on qualitative assessments of technique, aesthetics, and relevance to show theme.

Liability: 

Glass art is inherently fragile and any art being displayed to the public is at risk of being damaged. Although The Groove Artspace will take all reasonable precautions to ensure that art is displayed and installed securely, we do not accept liability for damage to art that may occur during the exposition. 

Entry:
A non-refundable entry fee of $25 is required and you may submit up to 3 works with this fee.
