"Cold Connection" Metal Jewelry Making w/Carol
Want to create your own metal jewelry but don’t have the money or space for soldering metal? In this class you will learn an easy way to put different types of metal (copper/bronze/silver) together with rivets to create several jewelry pieces. Learn to stamp, cut metal into circles/squares/rectangles, patina and finish your pieces.

6.15.24: Cameras and Chemistry: Intro to 35mm Film Processing
Are you a film aficionado itching to learn the ins and outs of developers and fixers?
This class is for anyone who wants to learn how to develop 35mm film (black and white only - this class will not cover color processing).
We’ll start with a photo walk around downtown ABQ, and then return to The Groove to develop our film and then scan our negatives.
A roll of Ilford HP5 will be provided for use during this class.
Don’t have a film camera, but still want to join us? No problem! Class instructors will have extra 35mm cameras on hand for student use.

Cut, assemble and fire traditional fused glass but utilizing a variety of non-glass materials and techniques. Using wire and sheet copper embedded in fused glass, we will create an opportunity to collage a variety of materials to glass. The objects created can be, but is not limited, to making a mask.

7.6.24: Introduction to Modeling Glass
Have you been curious about fused glass but never tried it? Looking for a unique way to make sculptural shapes for your current fused glass artwork? This is the class for you! Modeling Glass has been quietly revolutionizing fused glass for several years. You’ll learn about the incredible creative potential of this product from the artist who developed it, Lois Manno. She will demonstrate how to properly mix a batch of Modeling Glass and use it to make dimensional shapes without a ring saw or molds. Each student will mix their own batch of Modeling Glass to execute a summer garden theme. All tools and supplies will be provided. Perfect for the artist at any skill level who is curious about learning a new technique, one that will help them achieve effects that currently require either complex mold-making or expensive equipment. Needing only a single firing, everyone will complete a garden of their own interpretation. Lois will have a table full of fired samples demonstrating the many ways Modeling Glass can be used to make unique works of glass art and will discuss how they were made. These are always a source of lively Q&A. The possibilities of Modeling Glass are endless…see for yourself!

3.25.24: Intro to Matting & Framing w/ Sarah
Are you an artist interested in learning how to mat and frame your own work for exhibition? Come to this class, and learn the basics of dry-mounting artwork, matting (please note: this class does not include instruction in mat cutting), and framing.
*** Students are encouraged to bring a piece of their own artwork, sized at 5”x7”!
Don’t have a small piece to work with? No problem! Pick from a selection of 5”x7” artwork provided by the instructor.
All materials required to mount, mat, and frame a 5”x7” piece of artwork into an 8”x10” frame are included in the course fee.
Our hands-on practice with provided materials will include:
- Dry-mount of artwork onto a backer board
- Assembling backer board and mat
- Installing prepared artwork into an 8”x10” frame
- Installing hanging hardware
We’ll also discuss:
- What are archival materials, and why (and when) are they important?
- Mat thicknesses and backer boards
- Adhesive selection for dry mounting
- Supplier options for mats, backer boards, and frames
